Hey SEAL is that spec sheet you sent me still good?

Congrats on the new build – give me a call when the parts come in.

Well as of yet the RAM and video card orders are still processing on New Egg for some reason but the mother board is on its way

          IT SHIPPED!

be sure to get your voltages and memory timings right to prevent issues. Don’t let the BIOS auto detect these settings…

I have no idea what that means, but I will watch out for it

If you are building a custom system, you can access the BIOS by pressing the “delete” key continually on startup. This will bring you into a “DOS” looking setup, with access to the core functions of your motherboard. (here is where you can also set up drives in RAID, and disable un-needed components that might slow the rig down – such as old serial ports)

Obviously don’t go in there and blindly change settings, but more often then not, people have the mobo “auto detect” memory timings, voltages, etc., and in my 15+ years of building systems, these auto-detected settings are usually dead wrong. Check both the motherboard manufacturer, CPU manuf. and memory websites for the proper settings.

If you aren’t comfortable doing it, then I or someone else would be happy to walk you through, time permitting. Once you are comfortable, you could also do a bit of overclocking and get more juice from your rig. Currently, I have my older e4300 (1.8ghz) overclocked to 2.85ghz, and stable as a rock. The amount of achievable overclock will vary based on the individual chips you get, along with proper cooling.

Lots of tutorials online too, but tweaking the BIOS requires lots of restarts… can’t access the net while doing this obviously…

            Let us know…

Ok, I was supposed to get everything in today, but the UPS deliverer couldn’t see the 20 Postit notes i put up all around the door telling him the key code. Tomorrow Ill hopefully get it and try and fire it up
