Skirmish - Clueless

Clueless

I reconfigured my entire network here last weekend to best accomodate hosting the Teamspeak Server that I built for us. Although there were some heavy growing pains, as I have never done Linux before, and I am not a network admin, it is now running smoothly and should not present any more problems. Thanks for your patience.

I do still have some finishing touches I am putting on the case for it, but those down times will be minimal, as I will plan them so it doesn’t interfere when most of us are online. I’ll also post some images here of the server build, as I used a mini-atx motherboard, laptop components, and some butchered parts of an old case to make it a very small, low power and dead quiet setup. It’s mounted inside a small chrome trashcan I picked up at Target, laying vertically on it’s side with a custom faceplate and rear panel. (looks like a miniature tower)

The birth of a mini linux server:

  • EPIA M10000 motherboard
  • Morex 120W power supply
  • 512mb DDR RAM (redhat WS minimum)
  • 80gb 2.5″ laptop hard drive
  • 8X Slot loading DVD-RW
  • Linux Redhat WS
  • Old Steel CPU Case/Chassis
  • SimpleHuman chrome trashcan (from Target)
  • Lots of elbow grease

I will post some shots of the internal mountings/workings when I get some time to take the server down for a few. And of course, once I have the faceplate finished and mounted. I’m building some metal mesh screening into it to allow for ventilation, although this doesn’t run even warm due to the low power consumption.

Hope you enjoy the pics!

What do you think the new domain name for the [REG]s website should be?

What do you think of the new design idea for the [REG]s site?

UPDATE: We are now live under http://regsquad.com – Thanks for voting!

OK, I went and did some searches for domain names, and here’s the domains that sounded good and were available. Feel free to leave a comment with any additional domain names you think might work, but be sure to check it’s availability first at www.godaddy.com or similar. We don’t need to decide on a domain and then have it not be available.

Take a look at this design for this new site, and let me know what you think… Too much? Too little? Too Battlefield2-ish?

I’ve spent alot of time creating these seamless tiles, textures and backdrops from elements within the game itself, trying to make the site as impactful and “game”-ey and “non-boxed” as it can be. Hopefully it doesn’t look anything like some shitty assed PHPpuke template. And yes, I plan on changing the design as we add games that we like playing, such as BF2142 , the upcoming QuakeWars and Frontlines releases.

Stop by often, as I will be adding all sorts of goodies and plugins to it, such as the new polling system and Teamspeak status.
